There are thousands of types of protein powder and it's important that you know which one is healthiest. While some may have high amounts of protein, they may also contain high amounts of fat and cholesterol. Or it may not necessarily contain high amounts of protein. Whatever it is, there is a strict balance that must be evident. Here are certain types of protein powder that you will see (in no particular order):
Casein-This is a milk protein that can also be found in cheese. While it is a good form of protein there are also areas where casein can work against you. Primarily this is in regards to absorbing rate. Because it's so thick (protein wise) it takes a while to absorb into the body. This is a good protein to have, but not if you want to experience the benefits of it immediately. It will take some time to get into the bloodstream. The best time to use it is post-workout or before you go to bed.
High Protien Diet
Egg White Protein-This is generally a popular one, too, but the downside to this protein is that it has a lot of calories attached to it. There are plenty of reasons to like egg white protein but one downside of it is it doesn't give you a lot of protein per serving. You have to take two or three servings as opposed to one for many other protein powders.
Soy-This one should be avoided. Many say that soy has great properties to it, but in reality it's one of the worst things someone can take. Avoid at all costs. Soy has prohibitors which stun cell growth and regeneration.
Whey Protein-They come in two forms: concentrate and isolate. Isolate is the healthier of the two because of the low to no fat and cholesterol. Concentrate can be full of fat and cholesterol.
Of all the proteins listed above, whey protein isolate is the one that should be given the most consideration. Its quick absorption rate makes it good to take at any point in the day. It's also high in protein and low in fat and cholesterol.
